ICT Sustainability: Update for Graduate Course Starting at ANU Next Week
I have just completed updating my notes for the course "ICT Sustainability". This starts starts on Monday at the Australian National University. While this is a graduate course (COMP7310), others concerned environmental issues may find it of interest.
Changes for 2018:
A discussion of the sustainability of bitcoin and blockchain was added to the topic "Business process improvement".
The chapter "Compliance Audit" was renamed "Carbon Accounting" and
updated with the latest National Carbon Offset Standard.
A short video introducing the course, was created.
Those not enrolled in a degree, and also undergraduate students, can apply to undertake the course. There are no lectures and no examinations. Instead, students are required to study and discuss the topics on-line, with assessed work every week, plus a project to estimate the carbon emissions and e-waste from IT in a real organization, then recommend how to reduce it. The materials are open access and are used by Athabasca University (Canada) for their course Green ICT Strategies (COMP 635).
